Between November 23, 2012 and January 5, 2014, the Inn at Laurel Point will be full of gingerbread houses for their annual Gingerbread Showcase event. But these aren’t the gingerbread houses of your childhood: they’re small works of art, made by expert gingerbread house makers. And they’ve never been sweeter! As part of a partnership with Habitat for Humanity, the Gingerbread Showcase will help support housing for low-income families.
Here’s how it works: professional and amateur gingerbread bakers will produce their best gingerbread houses and compete against each other to help raise money for Habitat for Humanity. Visitors are invited to come view these intricate creations and vote on their favourites in exchange for a donation to Habitat for Humanity Victoria.
Habitat for Humanity Victoria is one part of Habitat for Humanity Canada, a segment of a worldwide charity that aims to provide people in over 100 countries with a safe and decent place to live. Using volunteers and community donations, Habitat for Humanity builds affordable homes with the help of the homeowner families. The Gingerbread Showcase is just one way you can help the charity, and you’ll be feasting your eyes and nose upon delectable creations while you’re at it!
Visitors are welcome to the Inn at Laurel Point from 9am to 9pm daily from November 23 – January 5th to view the gingerbread display. Get into the giving spirit and bring a donation to buy your vote. It’s just one (delicious!) way to celebrate Christmas in Victoria!
